same would probably apply in the case of Indian studenta and a further deterrent in their case would be tre Language difficulty to which I refer later.

With regard to the question of exonase visite of prominent educationists the kinister of duncation is anxious to send a deputation of chinese professors to visit India sa soon as possibie. ▲ pointed out that while s...ch a visit would, in my opinion, be warmly welcomed in India, it would hardly be practicable before August owing to weather conditions and to the fact that most Indian universities would be closed between now and then. The Minister had in mind a party of about 15 ia all, who might split up into smaller sections during at any rate part of their visit, according to the special subjects in which they were interested. come splitting up seems to me desirable in order that the a eputation may cover se much ground as possible and be in a position on its return to advise the Minister as to those universities and other educational institutions in India which can offer facilities likely to be useful or uttructive to Chinese students. a further programe of esolunes coula then be worked out on tue basis of this preliminary survey. I understand that the Chinese Government would undertake to secure the necessary transport for the deputation as far as India and I suggest that from the time of its arrival in Calcutta the deputation should be the guente of the Government of India. in the hope that this suggestion will be acceptable I am taking steps at once to prepare a provisional programmie. It should not be difficult to arrange for the memvera of the deputation to be entertained by Universities and other learned sucieties during most of its stay in this country. It was 180 suggested that this deputation should bring a small but representative collection of Chinese art with them,

A return visit by Indian equcationists might be arranged later. Altough whinese üniversitics are carrying on under great difficulties and those evacuated from occupied parts of China are housed in buildings hich necessarily compare unfavourably with Indian standards, I feel that representatives of Indien Universities might learn very useful lessons in China, particularly in regard to simplification and the adjustment of studies to meet immediate social and economical requirements.

The question of transport my present difficulties, but it is possible that by the time such a return visit becomOU feasible the situation in this respect will have improved
